Fraser & Girard's First Anniversary

In ten days, Marianne and I will celebrate one year since we first really hit it off at a Crabtree and Mills show at the Free Times Cafe. We had met at an International Folk Alliance Conference in Montreal a few years earlier but only for a second, and at the Killaloe Folk FestivaL where I  first saw her perform. At the Tranzac with Marianne as a double bill with rock poet/musician, Robert Priest, we finally got a bit of time to chat and the Free Times meeting lit a fuse. About a month later, we got together to exchange songs and I was very excited to hear her material in a private setting. We saw each other almost every weekend after that for three months and In December we got a place together in the town where she was teaching guitar and conducting music therapy workshops, Orangeville, Ontario, about an hour north of Toronto.

Marianne graciously invited me to accompany her on almost all of her engagements after our August encounter and it soon became apparent that we could be a strong combination artistically. Since then we have done house concerts, performed in music conference showcases, played on television, given concerts at the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival, performed in art galleries, community centres, restaurants and nightclubs, while assembling  this website, music, videos and promotional material for our new collaboration.

Fraser & Girard are confirmed for a two week November tour of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada

We have each toured with Winnipeg's Home Routes touring organization, she as a solo road warrior for three different tours and I just once with my dear old friend and colleague, Ambassador of the Blues, Brian Blain. Now Marianne and I are pleased to have been invited to do a tour together as Fraser & Girard for Home Routes in November. After two solid weeks of nightly living room concerts, often with no sound system, we will forge our performances and this will allow our con
certs to reach a new level of confidence and freedom.

In September, 2014, Paul Mills will produce Fraser & Girard's first album.

An album together is imminent, to be produced by award winning producer, engineer and performer, Paul Mills. I have worked with Paul several times over the years when he was a key CBC music and radio producer working with Oscar Peterson, Sylvia Tyson, Stan Rogers , Ron Hynes, Natalie MacMaster, Willie P. Bennett, David Essig, David Bradstreet, Doug MacArthur, Laura Smith, Fraser & deBolt and many other key Canadian artists.  It has always been a joy to work with him and I have always been very happy with the results. Marianne, Paul and I are all looking forward to recording Fraser & Girard. Our material is consolidating and gaining dramatic momentum just as we head into the studio next month.    - Allan Fraser
